PILARGLOBALNEWS,--Olahraga bela diri Tarung Derajat tak hanya diarahkan untuk mencetak atlet berprestasi, tetapi juga mulai didorong menjadi bagian dari upaya menjaga keamanan dan ketertiban Kota Bandung.
This initiative was highlighted during the Bandung City Tarung Derajat Joint Training event held at Bandung City Hall on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
During the event, the Bandung City Government and the Bandung City Chapter of the Tarung Derajat Sports Family (Kodrat) discussed plans to provide martial arts training for members of the Community Protection (Linmas) units across all urban villages (*kelurahan*).
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the training would be conducted in stages, involving Linmas members serving in the city's 151 urban villages.
Each urban village will select one top-performing Linmas member to receive advanced training.
These selected members will then be able to pass on their martial arts knowledge and skills to other Linmas members in their respective areas.
"One outstanding individual—whether male or female—will be selected from each urban village. They will then be equipped to provide training to the teams under their supervision," said Farhan.
According to him, this collaboration serves as a way to equip Linmas members with the skills to handle potential security threats, including street crime.
Farhan urged the leadership of Tarung Derajat West Java, Kodrat Bandung City, and the Bandung City National Sports Committee (KONI) to treat this program as a tangible form of cooperation with the Bandung City Government.
"Tarung Derajat equips Linmas members to combat crime and confront street robbers," he said.
Farhan noted that Tarung Derajat holds a special place for Bandung City. As the martial art originated and developed in Bandung, it shares a deep historical connection with the city.
He also encouraged athletes and administrators to continue elevating the profile of Tarung Derajat on the global stage. "This is a pivotal moment; Tarung Derajat will always be an inseparable part of the history of Bandung City. After all, Tarung Derajat is the only martial art that can truly claim to have been born right here in Bandung," said Farhan.
"Let us show the whole world that Tarung Derajat in Bandung is the best in the world," he continued.
Meanwhile, Asep Robin—Chairman of the Bandung City Kodrat (Tarung Derajat Association) branch and a member of the Bandung City Council (DPRD)—noted that the new leadership team he heads has been in place for only about a month and a half.
Nevertheless, they have already begun preparing facilities to support athlete development and Tarung Derajat activities in the city.
Asep mentioned that the Bandung City Kodrat now has a secretariat that can serve as both a regular training venue and a dedicated training camp (TC) site.
"It covers an area of 1,026 square meters. Athletes can train there at any time, and it can also be used for training camps," Asep revealed.
He added that the current Bandung City Kodrat leadership team includes several heads of municipal agencies and directors of regional government-owned enterprises (BUMD).
This composition is expected to strengthen support for the development of Tarung Derajat.
One key focus will be providing rewards and educational support for high-achieving athletes. Asep pledged to ensure that accomplished Tarung Derajat athletes receive the means to pursue higher education.
"The current leadership is committed to ensuring that high-achieving Tarung Derajat athletes have access to further education. God willing, we are ready to facilitate their studies up to the bachelor's degree level. Scholarships are available through to graduation, provided they maintain their performance," he said.
The joint training session held today also serves to strengthen bonds and foster unity among Tarung Derajat members in Bandung.
Asep stated that similar events are planned to be held regularly, twice a year.
Beyond athlete development, he believes that collaboration with the Bandung City Government—specifically through training for *Linmas* (community protection officers)—can expand the benefits of Tarung Derajat to the wider community. "God willing, Tarung Derajat will be at the forefront of working together with the Bandung City Government. We will support the mayor's programs and the Bandung City Government's initiatives," he concluded.
